“3.6” stands for the day March 6th. It was on that day in 2017 at 4:21 a.m. that two police cruisers arrived to deliver the devastating news that a young promising mother, daughter, sister, and friend had been murdered. Tamara White was 22 years old when she was shot and killed. Tammy was engulfed in grief and confusion. The pain was so overwhelming that it seemed like a nightmare.
Many sleepless nights followed, during which Tammy struggled to find a way to navigate through her sorrow. It was out of that tragedy that Tamara's mother, Tammy Steele, was inspired to create “Surviving 3. 6 Inc.”
Surviving 3.6 is built on a pinky promise–the same promise that Tamara White made with friends. Tammy White Steele has vowed this same promise to mothers that have lost their children tragically, to help families going through a difficult time. Steele formally founded the organization in 2020, three years after her daughter’s murder and wants to encourage people to seek counseling and remove the stigma that may come with getting help with mental health issues.
